Restore Fiscal Responsibility to LAUSD

The District spends too much on a bloated bureaucracy. I will push for targeted cuts to this bureaucracy, refocus our priorities on kids, and redirect funding into the classroom.

Over the last few years, at a time of declining student enrollment, the District has actually increased its non-school personnel and spending. This has had a devastating impact on schools and classrooms. Schools operate on shoestring budgets, while employees in LAUSD's downtown headquarters often take scarce resources and create large amounts of unnecessary work for teachers and administrators. This must change.

As School Board member, I would place a cap on non-classroom spending. I would redirect our focus and our resources on school and on the classrooms - where they belong. Spending in many key areas is only possible with substantial cuts in non-school site spending.
