Campus Safety

Children simply can't learn in an unsafe environment. LAUSD must prevent gang formation and activity at public schools. While teaching at Fairfax, I have seen gang activity decline as a result of simple steps applied consistently, such as the implementation of the "Broken Windows Theory " on campus. By making sure that any graffiti at Fairfax was painted over immediately, we discouraged gang activity.

Other steps included enforcing a dress code and offering productive activities during lunch and snacktime, when gang activity is likely to occur. As your School Board member, I will insist that LAUSD implement Fairfax's graffiti abatement and lunchtime activities programs.
